Mercury Winters grew up in the tin-can-sized towns of rural Texas, which is either the best or the worst possible origin story for someone who writes horror. Probably both.
She’s been bouncing around the country ever since. Currently somewhere in central Illinois, which has its own particular gothic energyin the cornfirleds. She’s never stopped being fascinated by the things that go bump in the night, the grotesque beauty of the natural world, or the way a place can feel alive in ways it really shouldn’t.
Her work is queer, character-driven, and monstrously weird. Her casts are diverse because the world is, and stories focus on the complicated, beautiful whole of messy characters.
Her debut novella The Haze That Eats is available now. Her first full-length novel, Treetop Hollow, is coming soon.
